There are 2 terms you need to learn to get the best lights for your application. CRI and Kelvin.

• CRI means Color Rending Index. Sunshine in any season has a CR1 of 100. Low CRI bulbs are the reason colors look funny. The higher the CR1 the more natural colors look. A 90 CRI has great color rendering. 80 CRI has the light quality of compact fluorescent bulbs.
•  LED lamps and bulbs colors have Kelvins numbers. Different companies use descriptive words for the same Kelvin color. Warm White, Soft White, soft daylight are among the terms used for both 27000 and 3000 Kelvin. When you learn 3 Kelvin colors and the Kelvins you prefer, you will select the right light for you and your application.
• 2700 Kelvin, is the color of incandescent bulbs. A soft yellow light your parents used in their homes. A Kelvin lower than 2700 is often called an Edison bulb, the color of your Grandparents’ light.
• Halogen bulbs produce a 3000 Kelvin color, close to natural morning sunshine. LED’s with 3000 Kelvin produce the same color. Love Halogen light? Select a 90 CRI LED in 3000 Kelvin. In bulb code, the 3000 Kelvin can be written as 30 or 3000 Kelvin. When the CRI is 90, the code will read 930 and 830 when the CRI is 80.
• The above Kelvins are currently very popular in home and office use.
• A third popular Kelvin is 5000. The bright clear white- blue light of high noon can keep some people awake at night. Often used to color match when used in the 90 CRI. The 5000 Kelvin is often called Daylight. The word Daylight is also used for LED bulbs and lamps in 3500, 4000, 5000 and 6500 Kelvins by different companies. When 5000 Kelvin is used outside during the night it creates light pollution, interferes with animal and human life cycles.

Old fluorescent lamps used Kelvin numbers to define a light color. The constant use of the Kelvin color for fluorescent lamps allowed companies to produce a lamp that matched other company’s lamps. The 4000 Kelvin in LED is close to 4100 or cool white in fluorescent. In LED, Daylight often is used for 5000 Kelvin. In fluorescent, Daylight was 6500. Kelvin. LED companies use the word daylight for many Kelvins. 5000 Kelvin is a very bright blue-ish white light like high noon July.

A day in June about 2 PM at the 49^th -Parallel creates a light between 6400-6500 Kelvin. This was the color of the old fluorescent Daylight lamps.

Kelvins in 5700 to 5900 fluorescent lamps were often called Full Spectrum lighting. The lamps commonly had a CRI of 90.
